With offices spanning Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas, our regional offices operate semi-autonomously, each with its own corporate functions including Commercial, Finance, HR, Compliance & Legal, Customer Service, and Operations.

Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Business Development Manager to lead the growth of our Clearing and Forwarding (C&F) department. The focus of this role will be on acquiring new business, building and maintaining strong client relationships, and developing strategies to create a consistent customer base for ocean and air freight, warehousing, and transport services.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  1. Business Development

    • Identify and target new business opportunities in the Clearing & Forwarding sector, specifically in ocean freight, air freight, warehousing, and transport services.
    • Develop and execute strategic sales plans to achieve revenue and growth targets.
    • Conduct market research to identify potential clients and industry trends.
    • Build and maintain a strong sales pipeline to ensure consistent business growth.
  2. Client Relationship Management

    • Establish and maintain long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with clients, providing exceptional customer service.
    • Negotiate contracts and service agreements with clients, ensuring favorable terms for both parties.
    • Act as the primary point of contact for key accounts, addressing concerns and ensuring client satisfaction.
  3. Operational Coordination

    • Collaborate with operations teams to ensure seamless execution of services, ensuring customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
    • Provide input on pricing strategies, operational improvements, and customer feedback to refine service offerings.
    • Work closely with commercial and operations teams to ensure alignment between client requirements and service delivery.
  4. Reporting & Analysis

    • Monitor sales performance metrics and provide regular updates to senior management.
    • Prepare timely and accurate sales forecasts, market insights, and competitive analyses.
    • Analyze market conditions and competitor activities to adjust sales strategies accordingly.
  5. Continuous Improvement

    • Identify and implement opportunities to optimize processes, improve operational efficiencies, and reduce costs while maintaining high service levels.
    • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices within commercial freight forwarding.
    • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to continuously enhance skills and industry knowledge.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field.
  • Experience: Proven experience in business development, sales, or account management within the logistics, freight forwarding, or C&F industry.
  • Sales Track Record: A proven track record of achieving sales targets and driving business growth.
  • Industry Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of ocean and air freight logistics, customs regulations, and the U.S. C&F market.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, with a detail-oriented approach.
  • Adaptability: Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Tech Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other productivity tools.
