Job Description

The Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts (VCUarts) is seeking applicants for Musicians (piano andpercussion accompaniment) for the Dept. of Dance + Choreography. In this role, musicians will provide support forboth major and non-major modern and ballet dance classes.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• Work with Dance + Choreography Instructors to select appropriate musical accompaniment, and provideadaptations to align with specific exercises and / or techniques
• Accompany modern dance and/or ballet classes with appropriate musical and stylistic considerations
• Anticipated Weekly Hours: 6-12
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Music or equivalent experience
• One (1) year of experience playing for dance classes at the collegiate, professional, or pre-professional level; or equivalent in related training, education, and/or experience.
• Knowledge of/ability to learn ballet terminology
• Ability to sight-read provided music and improvise in various styles as needed
• Prepare multiple genres of music (e.g. classical, pop, musical theatre, opera, or others) which can be adapted forthe ballet and/or modern dance class
• Ability to maintain positive collaborative working relationships with students, faculty, and staff in a diverse andinclusive working environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Three (3) years of experience playing for dance classes at the collegiate, professional or pre-professional level;

Salary Range: $21.70 - $23.00
