Job Description

We’re seeking an experienced Game Designer to help our team create music-themed gameplay and experiences for an audience of millions of users. If you get excited about creating new connections between fans and the largest musical artists in the world, you’re who we’re looking for. We need a game designer who can find a balance between creating experiences and games, and push that boundary every time. You’re probably someone that wants to sit and tweak a mechanic until it feels just right. Someone with the experience to understand that number crunching is all part of making games fun and worth playing. Someone who knows that “finding the fun” probably doesn’t start or end in a document. We know this is kind of a new thing, so we aren’t going to pretend there’s anyone out there with a decade of experience in it. But if you’re passionate about tackling things that have never been done before, broad enough to bring in experiences from gameplay and level design, and sage enough to realize that none of us have all the answers, we would very much like to work with you. Magnopus's studio postings are made in advance of work anticipated to be awarded. Hires cannot be made until contracts are awarded. In some instances, contracts may not be awarded which could delay or preempt the interview process. We appreciate your patience. Responsibilities Work with the Creative Director and Lead to drive the vision through implementation of features and level design Research existing game mechanics and leverage established integrated experiences to create something novel and unique Use music to create compelling and exciting games centered around rhythm and performance Experience writing game design documents and creating systems that take users from zero to hero Highly experienced at balancing in game economies and progression Collaborate with team members to deliver design specifications for player engagement and retention to team leads, work closely with UX/UI to design wireframes and paper prototypes, and iterate in response to feedback Work within existing systems and expand on them, including integrating feedback from user experience testing Quickly prototype design ideas in-game and rapidly iterate via playtesting Requirements 5+ years of game design experience Experience in UEFN Proven experience balancing player progression and economics in at least one published game Overall knowledge of game design processes including, but not limited to, level design, engagement design, story pacing, etc Love of music, musical events (live and virtual), musical culture, and an appreciation for the zeitgeist surrounding specific musical artists. Experience on multiple projects and platforms Strong communication skills Nice to Haves Experience with mobile game design (or non-game design) MMO and ARG experience Experience scripting in language such as C#, JS, and Lua $60,000 - $130,000 a year Salary is based on level and experience. Magnopus is an experience focused technology company founded by a team of Oscar-winning artists, designers, and engineers from games, films, and other unusual places. We’re passionate about creating rich experiences that unite the physical and digital worlds. Because we’re building the future, we endeavor to create a diverse, creative workplace where people from many perspectives collaborate across disciplines to create amazing things together. We invest in our employee's progression with ongoing education and mentorship opportunities through their guilds, and support their happiness and productivity through generous health care, time off, and other benefits. We try to foster a safe environment where we can take risks, and learn from our failures. While we value individual talents, we favor collaboration more. We believe that the leadership of the company works for the employees, not the other way around. We feel strongly that our employees guide who we are as a company and the work we create, so we look for characteristics of curiosity, empathy, respect, honesty, and courage in every candidate. Though we’ve delivered a lot of crazy stuff, here are a few you can check out at home: Mission: ISS Disney Pixar Coco VR Blade Runner 2049: Memory Lab The Lion King - Virtual Production Elixir #J-18808-Ljbffr
