Detective Position Opening The Rawlins Police Department is pleased to announce a lateral opportunity for a qualified and motivated individual to fill the role of detective. The initiative aims to identify individuals outside our department who are interested in criminal investigations and possess the skills necessary to excel in a detective role. Responsibilities: - Conduct thorough investigations into criminal activities, including but not limited to aggravated assaults, sexual assaults, fraud, and other felony offenses.
- Gather and analyze evidence, interview witnesses, and interrogate suspects to obtain relevant information.
- Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies, experts, and legal professionals to build strong cases.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of investigations, including case reports, evidence, and witness statements.
- Stay abreast of laws, investigative techniques, and technology to enhance investigative capabilities.
- Testify in court as a witness and present evidence to support criminal cases.
- Work closely with other law enforcement team members to coordinate efforts and share information.
- Perform pre-employment background investigations.
- On-call rotation
Qualifications: - Minimum Education Level and Type: High Diploma or GED.
- Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least three years as a Police Officer/Investigative experience preferred.
- Strong interest in criminal investigations.
- Good performance record and proven ability to handle investigative responsibilities.

Opportunities: The Rawlins Police Department offers various instructor roles and specialties, including K-9 Officers, Firearms Instructors, Custody and Control Instructors, Bike Patrol, Drug Recognition Experts, Investigations, and School Resource Officers. Pay and Benefits: Hiring Bonus: $2000 for new officers without prior experience and $3000 for Lateral Officers.
Competitive Pay: We offer increased rank pay and paid overtime. Officers are eligible to receive predetermined hourly increases for certifications and educational degrees.
Paid Insurance Premiums : The City of Rawlins pays all employee insurance premiums, a savings of $320 a month, and $3840 a year for a family.
Pension: You are eligible for a 20-year retirement at 50% of your top five earning years, 62.5% at 25 years, and 75% after 30 years.
No State Income Tax: Citizens of Wyoming do not pay personal or corporate state income taxes, have no retirement income taxes, and enjoy low property and sales tax rates.
Take-Home Cars: The Rawlins Police Department has a take-home car program where each officer is assigned a take-home patrol car. Take-home cars add to the visibility of protection in the neighborhoods where the officer lives.
Paid Academy: All new officers will attend the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy. The Rawlins Police Department pays for the academy tuition and the officer's salary. Experienced officers are encouraged to apply and may be eligible for peace officer certification reciprocity.
