**Description**

The Waiter position is responsible for exceptional, gracious and friendly, company standard table service of guests aboard vessels. The Waiter works in both individual and team service depending on the direction of the Head Waiter to best accommodate the guest and overall service.

**Essential Duties & Responsibilities**

* Responsible for table set up, preparation, clearing of all tables, as well as food and wine service at assigned tables for all meals

* Take part in storage and luggage handling when required, as well as special functions and events as needed (i.e. pass canapes, beverages, etc.)

* Approach all passengers in a courteous and friendly manner with a smile (without being overbearing)

* Has a complete knowledge of all dishes, allergens, and wines/beverages on the menus and is able to explain them to the passengers in clear, concise, thorough and friendly communication.

* Ensure proper table set-up and that all glasses, cutlery and plates (mise en place) are always properly cleaned and "spot-free"

* Stand alert, focused and at attention at his/her station prepared for passengers when they enter the room

* Make passengers welcome by greeting them and showing them to their seats

* Serve all passengers at one table at the same time in accordance with departmental training and protocol

* Reports any problems with passengers immediately to the Head Waiter

* Participate in all briefings and training sessions held by the Head Waiter and/or Food & Beverage Manager

* Communicate with Head Waiter about personal needs during service (i.e. restroom break)

* Assist with luggage handling and storing, when requested

* Vacuum, clean, and remove dust, from all dining and bar areas, as required

* Polish cutlery and glasses, fold napkins, place butter and other condiments on tables, setup wines, beverages and coffee service

* Ensure that all wines and beverages return to the fridge after meal service has concluded

* Assists in gathering all dirty dishware and bring to the dish room for cleaning. Stacking and scraping if necessary

* Assists in keeping the dish area in a clean and orderly condition at all times

* Assists in receiving food items and non-food supplies and storing them in the proper areas in accordance with the FIFO (first in-first out) inventory method

* Maintain safe and sanitary conditions at all times. All FDA, Coast Guard and Maritime Security guidelines are to be followed at all times

* To report any maintenance issues found in your assigned areas. This should become routine and awareness second nature when walking through the vessel

* To stay personally current on cruise events and programs in order to answer any passenger questions

* Maintain a level of courtesy and professionalism in conversing with all passengers, co-workers and management at all times

* To read and follow all memos/directives as issued by company management.

* Promotes good business principles by never discussing company business in public areas with fellow crewmembers or passengers

* Holds a current ServSafe Alcohol Server certificate and constantly upholds policy regarding serving liquor. Upholds liquor-serving laws and never serves to minors or crewmembers

* Provide assistance to other crewmembers and departments to contribute to the best overall operation of the Company

* Participate and ensure participation of all USCG mandated drills and emergency procedures as directed

* Performs other duties if required since above stated describe only a regular working day and may not be inclusive of every task needed to achieve results

**Requirements & Qualifications**

**Education:**

* HS Diploma or Equivalent Required

* Professional Certification(s) or License:

* TABC Permit (Server Permit)

* Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) if applicable, and/or ability to obtain and maintain

* Copy of DD214, if Veteran status

**Skills & Abilities:**

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills

* Ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a pleasant and professional manner

* Proficiency with MS Office applications

* Ability to train and supervise employees

* Logically and independently plan, organize and complete work assignments

* Must maintain a neat, clean and professional appearance

**Experience:**

* At least two years of experience in position with similar duties and responsibilities

* Experience in supervising and training employees

* Cruise industry experience preferred

**Other:**

* Must be at least 21 years of age.

* Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG including but not limited to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident/incident testing.
